Moth watch on Allamuchy Mountain
BYRAM — It’s a bird, it’s a bee, it’s a tiger moth! “Moth-ers” of all ages are invited to participate in an international citizen science project that illuminates moth biodiversity and insect conservation.
Join us July 28 at Allamuchy Mountain State Park (Sussex Branch Trailhead on Waterloo Rd.) 9:30PM-11:30PM for MOTH WATCH! Participants/volunteers will learn about common moth identification, safe moth trapping techniques, and the ecosystem services provided by moths. The event will take flight with a presentation by PhD candidate Michael Cavallaro followed by an inventory of moth species lured by light traps. Free to the public, this event aims to give a “hands-on” experience to all ages and an opportunity to reconnect with the natural areas in their community. It is recommended to wear light colored clothing and sturdy footwear. Other items recommended to bring include: camera, flashlight, notebook, pen/pencil.
