Newton — The Sussex County Arts and Heritage Council, which supports the arts and the preservation of history in Sussex County, would love for everyone to attend its Masquerade Ball on Friday, October 12, at the Lake Mohawk Golf Club. The evening will begin at 6:30 with a cocktail hour featuring live music, and include dinner, a deejayed dance party, silent auction, a candy buffet and much more.
Event chairwoman Linda Swentzel is excited about the gala. “This is a major fundraiser for us,” she said, “but we wanted to throw a party, and this is going to be a lot of fun!” Attendees are encouraged to come dressed in costume or cocktail attire. Masks by local artists will be available for sale at the event, or at the SCAHC Gallery on Spring Street in Newton prior to the festivities.
In addition to operating their gallery, the Council provides grants and regrants to local arts and history groups, offers ongoing support to multiple area organizations, and offers workshops for all ages. Just this year, Swentzel said, they’ve been able to help two dozen art and history programs with funding through grants. The Sussex County Arts and Heritage Council operates as an independent, non-profit organization. “Every dollar counts towards our mission,” Swentzel said, “We aren’t part of the government of Sussex County, we do this all on our own.”
More information on tickets and/or sponsorship opportunities for the Masquerade Ball or any of the Council’s upcoming events can be found on their website at www.scahc.org. People can also call the gallery at 973-383-0027 or visit them at 133 Spring Street, Newton, during their regular business hours, which are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday through Friday, or on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
