— Disney’s The Little Mermaid Jr. will be presented by young actors from Sparta Middle school at the Sparta High School Auditorium on April 10 through 12th.

The show will begin at 7 p.m. April 10 and 11, and at 2 p.m. April 12.

The 60-minute musical, designed specifically for middle-school aged performers, is based on the 2008 Broadway production and the 1989 animated feature film. The cast contains a variety of performers from all grade levels, with approximately 40 students led by director and producer Victoria Reed.

The musical has helped expand upon a growing performing arts community in the Middle School. The presence of a musical theatre program has provided an excellent opportunity for first-time performers looking to take part in an exciting and fun experience, according to a school news release.

The program is in its third year and has taught participants public speaking, confidence, a sense of community, patience, and numerous other skills, the release states.

Reed, who believes in a fair and constructive learning environment for performers, has double-casted the show to give the group of youngsters maximum performance opportunities.

Additionally, there will be a bake sale at the show to benefit the Sparta Middle School Theatre Department. The proceeds from the admission price and the bake sale will go toward the theatre program.
