Golf Association Opening Day

Saturday, June 1 was Opening Day for the Lake Mohawk Golf Club Women's Association. A delicious brunch was prepared by the new Chef Paul Donnelley and assisted by Sous Chef, Ahmad Baker. The chefs are pleased to have a new kitchen to create their gastronomic dishes. Julie Killen, Social Chair, coordinated the dining event.
President Pat Dermody called the meeting to order. The new slate of officers was introduced, Leslie Plifka-Vice President, Carol Kozy-Treasurer, Ester Kashkin- Secretary. Lynne Kanofsky will be 18-hole Chair and Nina Booth will be 9-hole Chair. Joe Fulco, the new General Manager, addressed the group and relayed the exciting plans for the season. After the meeting, golf professional Steve Demmer set the golfers off for a shotgun start scramble format under a glorious, sunny sky.
The ladies locker room has undergone a major transformation. Under the decorating direction and suggestion of Julie Killen, Dana Nolan, Nina Booth and Darlene Randazzo, the space now has a bright, updated look. They also added their design touches to other elements of the clubhouse.
The Margarita League, a social/golf lesson on Wednesday afternoons for new golfers has been well received and many are joining the 9-holers group. Both 18 and 9-hole women golfers will be playing on Wednesday mornings.
Barbara Wortmann and Ester Kashkin, Chairs for the Ladies Member-Guest Golf and Social, described their creative ideas for the June 25 event. "Birdies for All" is the theme for a day of great golf, awards for Best Foursome Costume, prizes and raffle. Jan Keefer and Cathy Wild are the committee assistants for this Member-Guest outing.
Golf and social members were introduced to a variety of activities to satisfy everyone's interests: Joan Donohue is Chair for a theatre group, scheduled to see Almost Queen at the Newton Theatre. Other chairs include Debbie Marcellus for Cinema Outings; Cooking lessons chaired by Patty Cronin; Mahjong chaired by Claire Gallagher; Book Club chaired by Maureen Racciopo.
