Lake Mohawk ladies hit the links
SPARTA — While the Preakness Stakes marked the second leg of the horse racing's Triple Crown, it was the first leg that day for the Lake Mohawk Golf Club Women's Association. r The golfers were greeted by LMGC's new General Manager/Director of Golf Steve Demmer. An 11:30 a.m. scramble format was put into play by the Golf Chair Leslie Plifka and included both 18 and 9 holers. Players feasted on their box lunch as they traversed the lush green course. Winners were Valerie Horan, Connie Duquette and Denise Surdoval. Horan also won closest to the pin.
Membership for the golf club has steadily increased under the tutelage of Tom Booth, president. A great many enticements have been added to provide both new and old members with reduced dues. Sal Morocco, member services director, has been very creative in helping to develop the game plan for membership while administering to his sphere of duties in the banquet realm.
Horan, president of the Women's Association, opened the annual meeting. A great many fun golf tournaments are slated for the season. Afterwards, the members were treated to cocktails and hors d'oeuvres from ceviche to tuna wrapped in prosciutto prepared by Chef Doug Yovich. Beautiful topiaries created by Loretta Nix, dining room manager, graced the banquet room.
Both golf and social members were introduced to a variety of activities to satisfy everyone's interests from Member/Guest Golf, 9 and Dine, Sip and Paint Night, Trivia Game, Book Club, Dinner with Chef Doug, Movie and Dinner. Other activity ideas are always welcome.
