German Christmas Market returns to Lake Mohawk

| 04 Dec 2013 | 01:12

The 12th annual Lake Mohawk Weihnachtsmarkt, or German Christmas Market, will be held on the boardwalk overlooking Lake Mohawk on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 8 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This year, the market will feature an auction of three hand-carved wood items donated by Freehand Custom Carvings (www.customchainsawcarvings.com) on Saturday at 7 p.m. There may be some additional treats in store for what promises to be a great auction, so be on the Boardwalk at 7 p.m. Saturday, if interested.

Music, story hour and a visit from Santa

Story hour and crafts for children will be posted next to the East Tower of Lake Mohawk Country Club. These activities will take place in the East Tower, upstairs.

Santa is scheduled to arrive on Saturday between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. and Sunday between 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. —listen for his bells for the exact arrival time.

The entertainment schedule varies. Indoor and outdoor performances are scheduled across both days of the Christmas Market. Some of the performers scheduled for Saturday include the High Point Harmonizers, Sparta High School Select Chorus, Vernon High School Quartet, No Strings A Capella Group, Cameo Productions, Vernon Brass, Biryukov Academy and the German Language School. Additionally, Almost Ghosts will be playing across the street at St. Moritz Bar and Grill.

Market Origin
This annual event was conceived over ten years ago and has now firmly established itself as a local tradition in Sussex County. It is now recognized as the largest Annual Christmas Market in New Jersey and is the only market to be run specifically to donate back to the community.

The Bavarian village architecture and local shops in Lake Mohawk are the perfect backdrop for this event. And the Boardwalk on Lake Mohawk is the perfect showcase for all the fine quality vendors offering unique and traditional gift items, from European chocolates to hand-crafted pottery.
