Greenwood Lake Air Show promises thrills, history and family fun
West Milford This is the big weekend. The Greenwood Lake Airport is hosting its third annual air and car show Saturday and Sunday, featuring modern aviation and the history that got it off the ground. The weekend show brings together heart-stopping aerobatics and special guests including the return of World War II heroes, Tuskegee Airmen Eugene Richardson and John Harrison, whose history is coming to the screen in George Lucas’ upcoming epic film “Red Tails.” With acts like aerobatic champions Kendal Simpson, Jane and Kirk Wicker, and Kevin Russo on hand, it's guaranteed to make one's heart race. In a interview with Kirk Wicker Sunday Oct 16 with me he told me "I have been flying since my feet could reach the rudder pedals," said Kirk Wicker. "No one has more fun than I do at air shows. I can remember sitting on the fence and watching the airplanes fly overhead.. and if I can put a smile on someone's face and teach them a little about flying history ,that is the greatest joy for me." Team RV is headlining the show. Team RV is comprised of 12 aircraft that fill the sky with close formation shapes, graceful aerobatics, smoke trails and the growl of engines as they maneuver through the show center. They are the world's largest air show team in action. Also at the show will be the rock and roll music of Kick Start Charlie. Rob Trout and the Flounders will be playing while you check out all those vintage cars that will bring those '50s memories rolling back. And by popular demand the return of Bill Riley and Joe Ziegler, the acclaimed duo who bring the comedy team of Abbott and Costello to life with their Ultimate Abbott and Costello Tribute Show. You won't want to miss “Come Fly Away,” Eric DeLauro’s tribute to Frank Sinatra. There will be plenty of festival food around, including burgers, hot dogs and sausage and peppers. And if a sit-down fare is more your style, visit the Passport Café for some fine dining. There is plenty of free parking and shuttle buses will be on hand to take visitors to the air field. Bring along some folding chairs and be prepared to experience a special event, for one day or the entire weekend. Gates open each day at 10 a.m. and the show runs through 5 p.m. Admission prices are as follows: $20 for adults; $10 for children age 5-12 and free for children 5 and under.
