Learn how maple syrup is made

Ringwood —Learn how real maple syrup is made, from treetop to tabletop, during the Maple Sugaring Festival on Sunday, Feb. 26, from 12 to 4 p.m., at the Weis Ecology Center in Ringwood. One-hour tours will leave the visitor center every 20 minutes. Visitors may also head off into Norvin Green State Forest for a mid-winter ramble or watch the winter bird activity from the observation deck. There will be a maple bake sale at the event. No pre-registration is necessary. Tour tickets may be purchased the day of the festival. The cost is $5 per person or $20 for families. For more information, call the Weis Ecology Center office at 973-835-2160 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday, or visit online at www.njaudubon.org. The center is one of nine staffed centers operated by the New Jersey Audubon Society Specializing in full-day and residential environmental education programs for schools, scouts and other youth and adult groups. The center, open during business hours, houses their turtle, snakes, seasonal exhibits and a nature store.
