Sussex County veterans honored at fairgrounds

AUGUSTA — On Sunday, several hundred residents came out to honor the county’s veterans during the 13th Annual Salute to Military Veterans parade and ceremonies at the Sussex County Fairgrounds.
The event was sponsored by the Sussex County Board of Chosen Freeholders, the Sussex County Department of Human Services, Division of Senior Services and the Veterans Committee.
A somber event, it was meant to show appreciation for those who served their country in times of war. Marching in the parade were veterans’ groups, area scouts, service groups, bagpipers and a collection of antique military and civilian vehicles.
At the close of the ceremony six veterans fired a 21-gun salute which was followed by the playing of taps. Later in The Richard’s Building, hot dogs and cold drinks were available as were representatives of various veteran’s-oriented organizations. The county freeholders distributed a special anniversary pin to the veterans who attended.
