Sparta. Imagine hearing a first-hand account of Jesus’ birth from the perspective of Mary and Joseph, long after the resurrection of Christ.
The dramatic Christmas program, “The Scandalous, Glorious Birth of Christ,” aims to develop a broader understanding and deeper appreciation for what Joseph and Mary had to face to make room for the Messiah’s entry into the world.
The First Presbyterian Church of Sparta Music Ministries, in collaboration with Salt & Light Theater, will present the program at 9:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 19. There is no charge.
The new script was written by the Rev. Daniel McEver, member of the church. Music director Deborah Gianuzzi will direct the vocal and bell choirs, leading music throughout the presentation.
Also in the cast is the fictional “Uncle Jesse,” who represents the stiff resistance against Joseph and Mary as the result of the perceived scandal of her pregnancy.
The church is located at 32 Main Street in Sparta.
