Superintendent Roundtable Award Winner

Each year, Byram Intermediate School grants the Superintendent’s Roundtable Award to an eighth grade student based on their academic performance, participation in extracurricular activities, and their citizenship qualities. This year, the Byram School staff is pleased to announce that the recipient of this year’s award, representing the class of 2020, is Grace Alderson.

Byram’s core values are a priority to Grace, as she continuously strives for excellence. Grades are very important to Grace, as she achieved honor or high honor roll throughout her middle school career. Her favorite class is Mass Media, where she is a videographer, editor, and anchor for the Byram News Network. She is excited to further pursue her passion by splitting time between Lenape Valley High School and the cinematography program at Sussex Tech in the fall.

While in sixth grade, the faculty elected Grace to be a member of the Peer Leader program. In addition, she is a member of the advanced band, where she plays instruments piano, bells, and xylophone. Grace is also a representative for the student council and is helping to create the 2019-2020 yearbook as well.

Throughout her time at Byram Intermediate School, Grace was involved with many sports like soccer, basketball, and track. She played on the girls’ basketball and coed soccer teams for three years. On each of those sports teams, she was elected captain by her fellow teammates and coaches. Based on her hard work on the court, Grace was awarded the team MVP for the 2020 Hardyston basketball tournament. Now that basketball season is over, she is thrilled to start track again for the spring season. Outside of school, Grace is a member of the Magpies Soccer Club. Through her participation in sports, Grace has built a foundation of discipline and lasting friendships.

In addition to academics and sports, giving back to the community is important to Grace. She supports the Bread of Life program through her grandfather's lodge, where they feed and clothe those in need. Grace also helped organize a lemonade stand and bake sale for a young friend, who was undergoing some extensive surgery. Grace also fills boxes for Operation Christmas Child and uses her own money to purchase food and gifts for programs like Angel Tree, Toys for Tots and Stuff a Bus. As Grace reaches high school, she will continue her service projects.
