3 charged with endangering child’s welfare

ANDOVER TWP. A dead 1-year-old child was reported in a home where drugs and drug paraphernalia had been seen, police said.

Three residents of Andover Township were charged with second-degree endangering the welfare of a child after a week-long investigation, police said.

About 10:15 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 20, the Andover Township 911 Center received a call reporting a dead 1-year-old child. Responding officers confirmed that the child had been dead for an undetermined amount of time.

During the investigation, police learned that controlled dangerous substances (CDS) and drug paraphernalia had been seen in the home and that evidence had been removed from the home.

Julie Taylor, 48; Stephen Dagis, 52; and Sarah Vanderbilt, 34, were arrested.

Taylor and Dagis also were charged with third-degree hindering apprehension, third-degree possession of CDS, fourth-degree obstructing administration of law, fourth-degree tampering with evidence and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Vanderbilt also was charged third-degree possession of CDS and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The Andover Township Police Department was assisted by the Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office, Sussex County Sheriff Department K9 unit, New Jersey State Police Crime Scene Unit and Newton Police Department.

The investigation continues with additional charges pending.
