6 teams compete in Senior Olympics
SUSSEX COUNTY. Hopatcong takes gold, Vernon silver and Sparta bronze in the fourth annual event.
Six teams competed in the fourth annual Sussex County Senior Olympics on June 22 in Hardyston.
Team members competed in ladder toss, chicken toss, goal kick, horseshoes, cornhole and golf putt.
The Hopatcong team won the gold medal, with 441 points, followed by the Vernon team, which won the silver, with 421 points. The Sparta team took bronze, with 394 points.
Other teams represented Hardyston, Montague and the Sussex County YMCA.
The event started with the march of the Olympians, followed by the flag salute led by the Sussex County Sheriff’s Department Honor Guard. The games commenced after an opening ceremony.
They ended with a barbecue lunch and awards ceremony.
The Senior Olympics were organized by the Sussex County Department of Health and Human Services Division of Senior Services.
