Hospital plans to raise $3.5M

Newton Medical Center aims to raise $3.5 million for three major projects that “will have a tremendous impact on our community and play a role in transforming our hospital,” said Megan Sandow, chief development officer of the hospital’s foundation.

In January, construction of a new behavioral health patient unit in the Emergency Department was completed.

It has four new treatment rooms, built-in televisions, and special doors to ensure comfort and safety for patients. A new nursing station was designed for employee safety, and the family lounge and consultation room was redesigned.

In the two other projects:

• Enhancements to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) will include newly designed nursing stations, new corridors and finishes throughout the unit, and a reconfigured core to expand caregiver workstations. The ICU will be prepared in case of a pandemic with the addition of 10 private patient rooms with negative-pressure capability and strategically placed power outside rooms for IV poles and patient monitoring.

• Major renovations to the Maternity Unit will include a spa-like atmosphere with state-of-the-art equipment and 17 private suites with new furniture and amenities. There will be a quiet workspace for partners in addition to sleeping accommodations for them.

The ICU redesign and the Maternity Department project are expected to begin soon.

Newton Medical Center Foundation, the philanthropic arm that supports Atlantic Health System’s Newton Medical Center, recently launched its “Your Care, Our Future” fundraising campaign for the projects.

“A gracious community partner pledged a lead gift of $1 million to our ‘Your Care, Our Future’ campaign that helped us to hit the ground running. As of today, we have raised $2,632,041 toward our goal of $3.5 million,” campaign chairman Tom Ryan said.
