Keanu Alicea, 29, of Montague was sentenced to five years in state prison Jan. 31 by Judge Janine Allen in Superior Court in Sussex County.

Alicea will not be eligible for parole for more than three years. He was credited with having served 51 days in the county jail.

He earlier pleaded guilty to second-degree possession of a firearm with the purpose to use it unlawfully against the person or property of another.

The charges stemmed from an investigation in January and February 2024 by Orange County, N.Y., law enforcement agencies and the Sussex County Guns, Gangs and Narcotics Task Force involving illegal drug distribution in Orange County.

When police searched Alicea’s home in Montague, they found a handgun along with controlled dangerous substances.

He also pleaded guilty to illegal drug distribution in New York.
