New Digital Archive at libraries

SUSSEX COUNTY. Upcoming events focus on local history and genealogy.

The Sussex County Library System (SCLS) has introduced a Digital Archive, featuring digitized images, slides and manuscripts from the Local History and Genealogy Department.

The first collection is hobbyist photographer Fred Kattermann’s collection of photos of local buildings, roads and landscapes taken in 1976.

Upcoming events focused on local history and genealogy:

• History of Architectural Styles in Sussex County: 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5 at Main Library, 125 Morris Turnpike, Frankford.

Sussex County Historical Society president Wayne McCabe presents the history of architectural styles found in Sussex County beginning with early European settlers.

• Buildings of Historic Franklin: 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, Franklin Branch, 103 Main St. and online.

Local historian Phil Crabb explores the history of Franklin’s churches, houses and library.

• Grow Your Family Tree: 6:30 to 8 p.m. Oct. 24, Main Library, 125 Morris Turnpike, Frankford.

The “Genealogy Detective” teaches how to uncover a family tree.

• Local History and Genealogy at Your Library: 2 to 3:30 p.m. Oct. 25, Dennis Branch, 101 Main St., Newton

Discover the local history collection with librarian Tara Schaberg.

“We are thrilled to offer engaging opportunities for our community to explore and connect with our local history,” said Tara Schaberg, local history and genealogy librarian at SCLS. “Our programs are designed to make history come alive, whether you’re learning about historic buildings, researching your ancestry or discovering what historical treasures the library holds.”
