Betty Garger named new Girl Scout President/CEO

SPARTA — Betty Garger, of Sparta, was recently appointed as president and CEO of Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey.

Garger officially took the position on Nov. 10 upon the retirement of President and CEO Helen M. Wronski.

“I am honored to have been selected by the board of directors as the new president and CEO and look forward to taking on this new position and continuing the great work we do to build strong, confident young women in our community,” said Garger.

An employee of Girl Scouts for the past 25 years, Garger is the current chief operating officer of GSNNJ. She previously held positions of assistant executive director, communications director, fund development director, product sales director and membership manager. Garger was also the CEO of Girl Scouts: Lenni-Lenape Council before the merger.

A member of the Paterson Rotary Club for nine years, Garger previously served as president, president-elect, vice president and secretary of the club. She is also an alum of Leadership Morris, a member of the current class of Bergen Leads, and a longtime member of the Sussex County Chamber of Commerce.

“Betty’s extensive Girl Scout expertise combined with her knowledge of the community and business sense made her the ideal candidate for the position. We are so proud of her accomplishments and look forward to working with her to provide the Girl Scout Leadership Experience to girls throughout the community,” said Josephine Hernandez, chair of the Board of Directors of Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey.

Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey serves girls ages 5 to 17 in 160 municipalities in Bergen, Morris, Passaic, Sussex and northern Warren counties. There are currently 33,978 girl members and 17,395 adult members.
