Knights-sponsored seminarian is ordained

SPARTA — Tom Gibbons, Jr., a New Jersey native was ordained as a priest on May 19th at St. Paul the Apostle Church in Manhattan. Father Gibbons was sponsored by the Blessed Kateri Knights of Columbus Council #13677 during his seminarian studies.

Several Blessed Kateri Knights and their families attended the ordination ceremony that was led by Bishop Walter Hurley of Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Father Patrick Rice, pastor of Blessed Kateri and chaplain of the Paterson Knights Federation, was one of over 50 priests that participated in the ordination at the Paulist headquarters in New York.

On May 27, Father Gibbons said his first mass at Blessed Kateri parish in Sparta. He was joined in the celebration by Father Rice, Deacon Drew Calandriello, and Paulist Priest and noted lecturer Father John Collins.

Following the mass, a reception was held in the parish center with over 130 guests in attendance. Father Gibbons has been assigned to St. Peter’s Parish in Toronto.
