Ann E. (Reitman) Nathan of Highland Lakes passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 23, 2024, surrounded by her family after a more than 50-year battle with multiple sclerosis. She was 81.
Born in Newark to the late Dr. Nelson and Hermia (Rubin) Reitman, Ann had lived in New Milford and Fair Lawn before settling in Vernon in 1973.
She was a graduate of New Milford High School and a graduate of Fairleigh Dickinson University, and she received her master’s degree from Montclair State College.
Ann had worked for many years as a learning disability consultant for the Vernon and Sparta Boards of Education. She also was an office manager for the psychology practice of her husband, Dr. Gerald Nathan.
She had been a longstanding member of Temple Shalom of Franklin and was an avid volunteer for the Goodwill Community Outreach Fund in Highland Lakes as well as for other organizations in Sussex County.
A lifelong learner and voracious reader, Ann loved to travel with her family and friends and enjoyed a very active social life with a large group of loving and supportive friends.
Predeceased by her parents, Ann is survived by her loving husband, Dr. Gerald Nathan; her children, Jennifer Rodriguez and her husband Troy of Highland Lakes and Jeffrey Nathan and his wife Christine of Camden, Maine; her grandchildren Max Rodriguez and Jack and Abby Nathan; and her sister, Marjorie Reitman of New York City.
Graveside services for Ann were held May 26 at the Sons of Israel Cemetery in North Hardyston. Arrangements are under the direction of the Ferguson-Vernon Funeral Home, 241 Route 94, Vernon.
