Elinor Rose Clark Read, 85, passed away Sunday, April 3, 2016 peacefully at her home in Sparta, surrounded by family. Elinor was born in Cady, SD, raised in Lincoln, NE where she met and married her husband of 51 years, Dale Read. As a young married couple, Elinor & Dale moved to Edmonds, WA, where they lived and raised their family for over 45 years.
Elinor spent many years as a volunteer with the League of Women Voters, Little Red Schoolhouse, and PTA while also working as a clothier in downtown Seattle. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed spending time gathering or travelling with her family and friends. For the last 10 years, Elinor has lived in Sparta.
Elinor is predeceased by her husband, Dale Read, and sister, Marjorie Stuhr. She is survived by her sister, Charis Szikszoy, Seattle, WA ; her children, Tiffany and Larry Dahlberg, Atlanta, GA; Carrie McArdle and Rick McArdle, Clinton, WA; and Rollin & Misty Read, Sparta, NJ. Elinor had 5 grandchildren she adored, Carly, Joe & Rita McArdle and Natalie and Hunter Read. She is also survived by many beloved nephews & nieces.
Her family will gather to celebrate her life in the coming weeks. In lieu of flowers, Elinor requests memorial donations be made to the Sparta Senior Center in great appreciation for the services provided by the senior surrey. The surrey was instrumental in providing Elinor freedom for several years and is a valued service to Sparta seniors for which we are very thankful! Donations should be made to Sparta Recreation, 65 Main St., Sparta, N.J. 07871, noting Senior Center donation.
