Joseph DePace of Vernon Township, N.J., passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, May 1, 2021, at Karen Ann Quinlan Home for Hospice, Fredon Township, N.J. He was 84.

Born to Michael and Antoinette DePace in the Bronx, N.Y., he has lived in Vernon Township for many years.

Joseph served with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and then worked as a sanitation engineer for the New York City Sanitation Department for 20 years retiring in 1980. Joseph was a parishioner of St. Francis deSales Roman Catholic Church in Vernon and active with the Vernon Township Senior Citizens and enjoyed the trips they planned through the local churches. He was also an avid pool player and enjoyed time shared with family.

Joseph is predeceased by his wife, Irene DePace (2018); a son, Christopher DePace; a brother, Eugene DePace; and a son-in-law, Ronald French.

He is the devoted father of Arlene French-Dutter and her husband, Bob, of Lake Ariel, Pa., Joseph DePace and his wife, Tamara, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Doreen Ziegler and her husband, Jason, of Wantage Township, N.J.; loving grandfather of Ronnie, Kenny, Joseph, Christopher, Destinee, and Rianna.

The family will receive their friends for a “walk through” visitation on Friday, May 7, from 4-8 p.m. at Ferguson-Vernon Funeral Home, 241 Route 94(1 Vanderhoof Court for GPS), Vernon. Due to government restrictions, no more than 150 people will be allowed in the funeral home at any one time and face coverings are required by all who enter. Funeral from the funeral home on Saturday, May 8, at 12:30 p.m.. Funeral Mass will be at St. Francis deSales Roman Catholic Church, Vernon, on Saturday, May 8, at 1:30 p.m.. Cremation is private. Burial of cremains will be at Northern New Jersey Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Sparta, N.J., on Thursday, May 13, at noon.
