Sean Schoch enters service through Penn State ROTC
Sparta. The PSU Army ROTC graduate received his officer commission during a traditional ceremony.
Army ROTC cadet Sean Schoch, son of John and Teresa Schoch of Sparta, graduated from Pennsylvania State University (PSU) on May 9.
Schoch graduated from Sparta High School in 2016. A member of the PSU Nittany Lion Battalion, he recently received his Second Lieutenant bars during the traditional Commissioning Ceremony on May 23, when he took an oath of office, the official swearing in of an officer into service of the U.S. Army.
COVID-19 health orders limiting gatherings to no more than ten people did not stop the PSU Battalion from conducting the ceremony, though with a different look. Modern technology allowed the event to be held with family and friends participating through Zoom from around the country. The ceremony included encouraging comments regarding the new officer by LTC Daniel J. Gross, PSU Professor of Military Science, and Major David Rizzo administrated the oath of office.
Schoch served as captain of the ROTC Ranger Team while earning a bachelor of arts degree in international politics. He has been assigned to the infantry branch and is at Fort Benning, Georgia, for the Infantry Basic Officer Leader Course.
