Jolene Florio of West Milford received a bachelor’s degree in psychology in May from the College of New Jersey. Florio is a 2005 graduate of West Milford High School and a 2001 graduate of Our Lady Queen of Peace elementary school. She received an associate’s degree from Ocean County College. Florio is the daughter of Nancy and Joe Florio of West Milford. For the next year she will be volunteering with the AmeriCorps program in Kentucky working with Morehead State University college students in order to alleviate poverty in the area. Some of her duties will include strengthening the college’s relationship with various non-profit organizations in the area and research other non-profit organizations to be involved with. She will serve on the committee to determine ways to promote volunteering at these organizations in order to get college students involved, secure the college’s funds to keep Campus Compact a success and participate in planning various programs on campus. After volunteering with AmeriCorps, Jolene plans to attend graduate school to receive a master’s in social work. She aspires to become a school social worker in hopes of being able to motivate high school students to succeed.
