Sussex Borough ShopRite is on pace for 2022 grand opening

The Sussex Borough ShopRite is on pace for a fall 2022 grand opening, Sussex Borough officials announced on Jan. 5.
Borough Councilman Robert Holowach said he had met with Ronetco ShopRite Chief Financial Officer David Romano on Jan. 4 and had what he called a “good discussion,” where they reviewed the building’s overall progress.
The store will be located on Route 23 in Sussex Borough, while the parking lot will be split between Sussex Borough and Wantage Township.
Holowach said they identified where the 12-inch water main will end. Holowach said they originally believed it would go all the way to Brookside Avenue, but only will go to the intersection of Loomis Avenue and Mill Street.
A piece of the property has been elevated up to seven feet in the front and 9 feet in the back, which will make up the store’s footprint.
Exterior work on the store had to be stopped on Jan. 1 because of a blackout period that lasts until April 1 because the ShopRite will be within a kilometer of a Bald Eagle’s Nest at the north end of Clove Lake.
“There can be no heavy equipment because I guess that’s their breeding time,” Holowach said.
