3 join Sparta Education Foundation board
SPARTA. John Paul Tacona, Peter Hoglund and Pamela Miller are elected as trustees at the nonprofit’s March meeting.
The Sparta Education Foundation (SEF) elected John Paul Tacona, Peter Hoglund and Pamela Miller as trustees to its board at its monthly meeting in March.
The three Sparta residents join the board after volunteering at SEF events and becoming increasingly involved with the organization.
Tacona, known to most as “JP,” moved to Sparta in 2016 with his wife, Julieann, and their two sons. A financial adviser at Merrill Lynch Wealth Management, he was a 2000 graduate of Villanova University.
He has been an active member of the Sparta community and was instrumental in starting the Sparta Chapter of Stand for the Silent, which brings awareness to children that are waging everyday battles against bullying. He has coached both his sons’ baseball and soccer teams for a few seasons as well.
Hoglund has more than 15 years of experience in the financial services industry. He and his wife, Jacqueline, have enjoyed living in Sparta, and both cherish their vacations to Disney with their three children. He has been active in coaching Little League in Sparta.
Miller, who moved to Sparta in 2020, is vice president of product development for a health and wellness company based in Texas. She previously worked as a columnist for San Antonio Woman magazine and was the senior digital strategist at a marketing firm in charge of multiple campaigns and social media accounts for the City of San Antonio.
With three children in Sparta schools, she believes strongly in giving back to the schools and in the SEF’s mission of enhancing Sparta students’ education.
“It is great to have these new members join our board,” said Heather Egli, SEF president. “They each are enthusiastic and eager to help us run our events and make the most of each opportunity to help grow our organization. Having JP, Peter and Pam brings a lot of positive energy to our group of volunteers, and we are all excited to start working with them.”
Since 2006, the Sparta Education Foundation has funded more than $1.2 million in grants to all five of Sparta’s public schools. The foundation is an all-volunteer, independent nonprofit corporation whose mission is to engage the entire community in philanthropic giving.
