Caitlyn Lyons is Miss Sparta 2016

SPARTA — Caitlyn Lyons was crowned Miss Sparta 2016 on Friday, May 20, at Lake Mohawk Country Club. First runner-up was Courtney McKenna and second runner-up was Kristen Petrucci. Lyons, 18, was chosen from 11 contestants in the township's 79th annual pageant. She will now be invited to compete in this year's Sussex County Queen of the Fair contest in August. Last year's Miss Sparta, Aimee Buchanan, went on to win Queen of the Fair.
Lyons, a senior at Sparta High School, has been a member of the Varsity Cheer Team for the past 3 years. She has also been a member of DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) at the high school for the past 3 years. DECA is a national organization for students interested in marketing and management. She has won several awards with DECA.
She also volunteers her time as a cheerleading coach with Sparta Little League Cheerleading, as well as at the YMCA soup kitchen in Paterson and Pass it Along. She also offers personal training and nutritional help to others.
In her free time she is passionate about powerlifting, health/nutrition, running, and football.
Upon graduation, Lyons will attend the University of West Virginia and compete on their powerlifting team. She will major in Sports Management and hopes to get a degree in Sports Law and work one day as an NFL agent.
McKenna 18, is also a senior at Sparta High School. Upon graduation, she will attend the United States Coast Guard Academy to study Mechanical Engineering and attend flight school. Upon graduation she will be serving in the Coast Guard for a minimum of five years as an officer. Her goal is to be a Search and Rescue helicopter pilot or a maritime law enforcement officer.
Petrucci, 17, is another Sparta High School senior. She will attend Ithaca College this fall to study Vocal Music Education.
