Caring award recipients announced
NEWTON — Ten area high school students were the recipients of the annual High School Caring Awards presented by the Sussex County School Counselors Association at a breakfast in the Student Center Theater at Sussex County Community College.
The students, who exemplified a caring attitude towards their school and community, were recommended for the awards by a guidance counselor from their high school.
Examples of services students participated in include Pass It Along, Operation Smile, animal rescue, special needs care and missionary trips. Students had a combined total of over 1,000 hours of community service.
This year’s recipients were Lauren Waselik, of Sparta High School, Emily Lynch, of Kittatinny Regional High School, Alison Masson, of High Point Regional High School, Renee Collins, of Sussex County Technical School, Wade Trainer, of Pope John XXIII Regional High School, Kayla Hernandez, of Wallkill Valley Regional High School, Caleb Samuel Squires, of Newton High School. Not pictured is Mary Rose Purdue, of Hopatcong High School, Sarah Anthony, of Lenape Valley High School and Zarchary Ploch, of Vernon Township High School.
