County to borrow $7.25 million for library roof replacements, trucks, and roadwork

Upgrades. The Sussex County Commissioners on March 23 introduced two ordinances, totaling more than $13 million, for improvements throughout the county.

The first ordinance called for the appropriation of $7.25 million in bonds for such upgrades as roof replacements at county libraries; the construction of a truck shelter in Lafayette; the purchase of a dump truck, a bucket truck, and a hook lift truck; and road and bridge improvements.

The commissioners introduced an additional ordinance to authorize about $6.2 million in spending for road improvements and other general capital improvements throughout the county.

The ordinance provides for projects that will be fully funded up to $6,236,256. The projects call for improvements are various facilities, including technology upgrades for the prosecutor’s office and libraries, paving at the Office of Emergency Management, and crack sealing on county roads, along with the replacement of roads and communications systems, the purchase of three Mason dump trucks and other heavy public works equipment, among other items.

A public hearing on the ordinance is planned for the commissioners’ April 6 meeting.
