Phil Murphy will be the next governor of New Jersey, according to the Associated Press and other major media outlets. The financier and former US ambassador to Germany will succeed Chris Christie and become the state’s 56th chief executive.
Murphy, the Democratic candidate, was declared the winner over the Republican, current Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno, in Tuesday’s election by all major news outlets within an hour after polls closed.
The results of local and state races in Sussex County are not yet officially in and will not be, according to the county election board, until 10:30 pm.
