SPARTA — Paris Eliades of the law firm Courter, Kobert & Cohen will become the new first vice president of the New Jersey State Bar Association.

The Sparta lawyer will take the oath of office, May 17, at the New Jersey State Bar Association’s Annual Meeting and Convention in Atlantic City. Up until last year, it had been over 30 years since a Sussex County lawyer served on the association’s executive committee. He is on track to become president of the state’s largest lawyers group in 2014. He is also the first Greek-American officer of the association, in recent memory.

“As a former President of the New Jersey State Bar Association, I recognize the hard work and commitment it takes to become the leader of this wonderful organization,” said the firm’s managing partner, Joel A. Kobert. “Paris’ dedication to the NJSBA helps literally thousands of his peers everyday with their practices.”

The NJSBA is the voice of over 17,500 New Jersey attorneys. It is a voluntary membership that assists lawyers with their practices, influences legislative outcomes, and is the voice for the legal profession in the state.

Eliades is a partner at Courter, Kobert & Cohen in Sparta. He is a former assistant Sussex County prosecutor and municipal prosecutor in Hamburg. During his career he has handled almost every kind of trial there is – from workers’ compensation cases to matrimonial matters.

“It is a tremendous honor for Paris to become the First Vice President,” said CKC Law Firm partner, Michael S. Selvaggi. “The firm is thrilled and proud to see him continue to rise through the ranks of the State Bar Association.”
