Sparta Little League Football League hosted their 53rd annual Milk Bowl on Sunday, Nov. 18 at Ungerman Field.

The annual fundraising football event involved youth teams from Sparta, High Point and West Milford.

Sparta teams won two of the three games played, involving players from the third to eighth grade. The Sparta youth cheerleaders kept the fans and players fired up and food and baked goods were provided by organizers and volunteers.

This year, the funds raised went to the Morelli family of Sparta. Mike Morelli, who is a football coach, is battling cancer. The proceeds of the Milk Bowl was donated to the family to help with medical bills. Mike Morelli was also named coach of the year and awarded a plaque.

Sparta Little League Football is the longest-running youth football league in New Jersey, started in 1957. The Milk Bowl was started two years later, in 1959. It is a series of games played in mid November between Sparta youth football teams and visiting teams. All proceeds are donated to a local cause. The Milk Bowl's organization's annual fund-raising purpose is to help a neighborhood family.
