Genealogy: How to decorate your family tree

Valerie A. G. Stern, Certified Genealogist, will speak at the Sparta Historical Society’s meeting on Thursday, March 14, at 7: 30 p.m.. Her talk will be on beginning genealogy: what to look for, where to find it, and what to do with it.

The presentation is designed for beginners as well as those who have done some family tree research.

Stern has practiced genealogy for 40 years, starting with her own family, and has developed her skills along with the growth of the internet.

She has a Master’s in Education, and was awarded her CG in 2011 by the National Board for Certification of Genealogists, meeting strict program standards and periodic competency evaluations.

She specializes in families who have come to New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania from all parts of the United Kingdom, Ireland and Australia.

Stern currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the Sussex County Historical Society and works as a volunteer at their library, helping visitors with their genealogical quests and answering online queries. Learn more about her background and genealogy business at www.allouryesterdays.org.

This event is being held in the lower level of the Sparta Ambulance Building at 14 Sparta Ave., Sparta.

Admission to this program is free to all members. Guests are invited to attend for a nominal charge of $1 per student, $3 per adult.
