— The Sparta Historical Society will include a silent suction at their 1940’s Boogie Woogie Victory Ball on May 15 at the Lake Mohawk Country Club.

Kathleen Fitzsimmons, of Sparta, will chair the Society’s silent auction that evening.

Featured items will be art work by Wendy Stamer and Toni Chapman, jewelry by Golden Castle Jewelers, Decorating Services of Rose Gong Monier, a handmade 1/8 scale model of a Chris-Craft boat and other articles. The fundraiser will benefit the refurbishment of the Van Kirk Homestead, a former Sparta dairy farm.

The evening’s activities will commence with a cocktail reception on the boardwalk at 6 p.m., and an opportunity to have a photo taken in front of automobiles of the era parked on the boardwalk.

Then, guests will enter the ballroom for a dinner, dancing to the music of the 18-piece Full Count Big Band, and entertainment of the Belle Tones, the modern-day Andrews Sisters.

Victory Ball tickets are $125 per person, which includes cocktail reception hors d’oeuvres, dinner, dancing and entertainment.
