Junior Woman's Club of Sparta awards $3,000 in scholarships
The Junior Woman’s Club of Sparta (JWCS) is pleased to announce that three scholarships, each in the amount of $1,000, have been awarded to local female graduating high school seniors from Sparta High School.
All three winners, Michaela Bleakley, Grace Sander and Briana Cotten, are remarkable. Michaela will be continuing her education at Ithaca College and plans to major in occupational therapy using her new skills to work with children with developmental disabilities. Grace will continue her search to help her community as a freshman at Marist College this autumn. Briana will be taking her talents to Northeastern University, enrolled in the honors program, to continue her quest to help others.
As a reflection of the JWCS’ mission, awards were based primarily on service to community and school. This year JWCS received over 30 applications and applicants volunteered over 10,000 hours to various local, national and international organizations. All three winners were formally honored at Sparta Day held this year on June 1st, 2019. They were presented with flowers and their scholarships by Lucy Lubertazzo, Chair of the Scholarship Committee.
The Junior Woman’s Club of Sparta is comprised of women from Sparta and the surrounding area who have come together as friends to foster goodwill while organizing events and activities that bring our community together. Each year the JWCS raises and distributes thousands of dollars to local organizations and charities.
