Kiwanis of Sparta gives money to local food pantry

SPARTA —The Kiwanis Club of Sparta awarded $7365 to the Sparta Ecumenical Council food pantry at their November meeting.

The money was raised at the Kiwanis annual wine-pairing dinner held at the Lafayette House and also during their October monthly food collection held at Stop & Shop in

Sparta.
The donation will go towards feeding area families in need. The Sparta Ecumenical Council Food Pantry is located in the Sparta First Presbyterian Church.

Thanks to a very generous community, Kiwanis has contributed $12,000 year to date to the Sparta Ecumenical Council Food Pantry.

Sparta Kiwanis is a group of men and women volunteers serving children, students, the less fortunate, seniors and the Sparta community.

Activities conducted by Sparta Kiwanis members over the past several years include:

Over $383,000 raised for scholarships to high school seniors at Sparta High School, Pope John High School and Sussex Technical High School.

Annual holiday bell ringing held at local supermarkets has collected $344,000 for the Salvation Army.

Sponsering youth service clubs in Sparta High School, Sparta Middle Schoo and other community and youth programs.

Support of local food pantries with food drives, benefit dinners, coupon collection, and assist in holiday food distribution.

Sparta Kiwanis meet every Thursday at 7 p.m. with a dinner meeting at Homers Restaurant in Sparta. News members are always welcome
