Local pianist competes in annual festival

— Sparta piano teacher Joan Farrington announced that her student Maika Batchelor competed in the New Jersey Music Teachers Association 22nd Annual Spring Piano Festival on March 15 at Westminster Choir College in Princeton.

Batchelor performed two works. She played Solfeggietto, #2 in c minor by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, son of Johann Sebastian Bach. Batchelor then performed Frederic Chopin’s Prelude in G Opus 28 #3. Chopin was a composer of the Romantic Period of music.

Batchelor received a certificate for her excellent performances. She was commended for her solid memorization and steady tempo.

Other activities of interest to Batchelor are studying viola, 4-H and Girls on the Run. She has also done service in collecting money and donating funds for a local animal shelter.
