NEWTON — First lady of New Jersey, Mary Pat Christie and over 300 guests were in attendance of Birth Haven’s Annual Spring Tea event on Thursday, May 10.

The event was held to benefit Birth Haven, a maternity shelter in Newton, and to raise money to directly assist mothers and babies in need.

Since its founding in 1985, Birth Haven has served over 650 women and babies. Birth Haven provides vital services including case management, counseling, and parenting education.

At the event, Mary Pat Christie recognized Birth Haven for their hard work and dedication to homeless pregnant women and their infants. Mary Pat also informed the crowd about a non-profit foundation that she founded in 2010, New Jersey Heroes. Through this foundation, she recognizes everyday heroes doing extraordinary things in their communities.
