Newton tanning salon offers ways to escape winter blahs

NEWTON -- Riviera Tan is the hottest place in town, and on Saturday, Feb. 24, there will be an Open House with free tans for all.
The salon will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Riviera will have a day full of giveaways and a chance to win the Grand Prize. It's a good way to escape from winter a little bit.
Owner Deb Singh said, “We do this once a year to celebrate our anniversary and our great customers as well as let those who don't know we're here about what we offer. It's been a steady flow of people all day looking to get warm and a little tan.”
In addition to three levels of tanning beds, including a stand up, and the increasingly-popular Norvell Airbrush spray tanning, one thing most probably don't know that Riviera has is their new Cocoon Wellness Pro Pod.
“It's great to help people relax in a world where there's lots of stress and it's great for your body and a chance to catch a 'power nap,'” Singh said.
Riviera Tan opened up in March 2005 and Singh took ownership in January 2016. Prior to that, she had been the salon's manager.
“The only changes that I have made so far are the addition of the Cocoon Wellness Pro last year and I am getting a brand new standup within the next two weeks.” Singh said. “At Riviera Tan we keep our beds hot (we change our lamps way before their life expectancy), carry a wide variety of tanning lotions at reasonable prices, and offer affordable tanning packages to fit everyone's needs.”
There are monthly specials, and the salon is open sevn days a week.
Singh said, “We have tanning beds and booths, and we offer Custom Airbrush Spray Tans by appointment using Norvell Products.” She added, “The Cocoon Wellness Pro offers you a dry heat infared sauna, full body vibrational massage, detoxifies, promotes weight loss,relaxes you and relieves stress, designed to improve circulation and reduce swelling.”
The Cocoon Wellness Pro Pod features six preset programs of natural technologies made with combinations of sophisticated components including dry heat, vibration massage, aromatherapy, salt treatment and jade stones. The Wellness Pro Pod's three levels of near, mid and far infrared lighting work to deliver a heat treatment that's like stepping into a dry sauna. It's purported to help circulation, alleviate stiff joints and muscles and help you relax. It delivers a full body massage to loosen tight muscles and reduce rheumatic pain. It also has essential oils which soothe the body and mind, Singh said.
“It's just a great way for people to come in and relax for half an hour and catch a cat nap if they want,” Singh said. “We're really excited to now have this amazing Cocoon to offer to our customers.”
Indoor tanning has been shown to provide Vitamin D, something that many become deficient in during the winter months. It has also been shown to help alleviate the winter blues by taking customers away to a warm place for a few minutes.

Winter hours are: Sundays, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Mondays - Thursdays 9 a.m. - 8 p.m., Fridays 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. and Saturdays, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
