Pass it Along to award 13 scholarships

— On Wednesday, April 11, 2018, 13 local high school seniors will be honored as this year’s Pass It Along Scholar Athletes at a banquet at the Lake Mohawk Country Club in Sparta. The Scholar Athletes were nominated by their school principals and athletic directors, and exemplify excellence in academics, athletics and above all, service and community commitment. The Scholar Athlete Program is now in its 33rd year, and the Presenting Sponsor is The Orthopedic Institute of New Jersey.

The nominees are required to create and facilitate a group service project, attend other Pass It Along service opportunities, and speak at various local civic groups throughout the area. All of the students will receive a $1,000 scholarship in conjunction with their recognition. A Book Award for $500, sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. Peter Stamer, and a Community Service Award for $1,000, sponsored by Ira Lubert Foundation, will also be awarded to one of the nominees at the banquet.
The banquet is a full dinner program from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. This year’s guest speaker will be Cindy DeVries Johnson, a Newton High School graduate and recipient of the 2001 Scholar Athlete scholarship. A limited number of seats for the banquet are still available.
