Residents commended for their contributions
SPARTA The Township Council awarded numerous Patriot Awards at their June 26 meeting. The awards are a recognition program to commend citizens for their efforts and contributions to activities that have benefited the community.
The program is administered by the Sparta Township Volunteer Recreation Committee (STVRC), with the approval of the council. The actions of citizens, organizations, or businesses that have provided notable benefits to the community are brought to the attention of the STVRC and the appropriate nominations are made and brought to the council for approval. Councilman Gilbert Gibbs is the council liaison to the STVRC.
Supportive participation or donations to events run by the STVRC, such as the Halloween Parade, the Pictures with Santa event, or the Breakfast with the Easter Bunny event, are one of the ways to qualify as a Sparta Patriot. Other activities include the volunteer efforts of individuals, groups, or businesses that provide services that benefit a large segment of the township by improving the quality of life, or saving tax dollars.
Organizations receiving Patriot Awards for their contributions to the 2012 Winter Festival were Laddey, Clark, and Ryan Attorneys at Law, Dreamfields, Burkes Liquors, Service Electric Cable TV, NJ Swim Sparta, Homers Restaurant, the Lake Mohawk Country Club, the Siberian Husky Club, the Pope John Key Club, the PAL, and Sparta Little League Football.
Patriot Awards for those who contributed to the Sparta Fishing Derby at Station Park were Bill Diffin of Stop and Shop, Tim Finkle of the Sparta Ambulance house, and Sharon Praeg.
