Boy Scouts, members of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #7248 in Sparta, and Wendy Wyman and her family gathered at the graveyard behind the Sparta Presbyterian Church to place flags and markers on the graves of Revolutionary War soldiers and Ladies of Trenton in October.

The identification and repair of historical gravestones is part of the preparation for the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence in 2026.

They repaired two of the Ogden family stones: for Mary, wife of Elias Ogden, and Sarah, wife of Robert Ogden III.

The Ogdens were early settlers in the Sparta area. Ogdensburg is named after the family.

The Ogdens also were founding members of the Sparta (Hardyston) Presbyterian Church.

Wyman is a trustee of the Sussex County Historical Society and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
