Shoprite employees honored for emergency aid
BYRAM — ShopRite of Byram and ShopRite of Franklin managers and associates were honored recently by Wakefern Food Corporation, the distribution arm of ShopRite Supermarkets, for their heroic acts to save two customers that collapsed in the stores in 2016.
Following their training in CPR and the use of the AED (automated external defibrillator), these courageous associates worked together to save the lives of two customers. Wakefern’s Loss Prevention team visited the stores to present Tiffany & Co. crystal hearts to all associates involved. Some performed CPR and used the AED, others called 9-1-1 and maintained crowd control and privacy for the customers. Collectively, their efforts ensured the stricken customers received the care they needed prior to arrival of emergency personnel.
ShopRite Supermarkets were the first supermarkets in the country to install AED’s and implement a Code Blue procedure. All store managers and department managers are trained in CPR and the use of the AED and are able to react quickly in times of emergency. Since the Code Blue program began in 1999, 107 lives have been saved throughout all ShopRite stores. Ronetco Supermarkets, Inc., is the operator of the ShopRite of Byram and the ShopRite of Franklin. Among its seven ShopRite stores, the Code Blue procedure has saved four customers.
