SPARTA — Saint Kateri parish in Sparta recently hosted the Silver Rose. The program is part of the national “Running of the Silver Rose” tour sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. A sculpted silver rose travels from Canada throughout the U.S. and then culminates in Mexico City in December for the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
Members of the Saint Kateri Squires and Roses led the ceremony along with Pastor Father Tom Fallone. Squire Sebastian Gomez and Squire Rose Chloe Bavarro carried the Silver Rose. Squire Rose Jolie Dottinger reviewed the history of Saint Juan Diego and then Chief Squire Jack Lubertazzi read a historical perspective on the Silver Rose origin with Columbian Squires in Mexico and South Texas. Other participants in the program included Roses Lianna and Nina LeValley, Caitlin Russo, and Lizzy Wolfe. Several parishioners and members of the Knights of Columbus also joined in the special prayer service.
Squires Chief Counselor Nick Cutrone noted: “We are grateful to our Squires and Roses for their commitment in honoring the Blessed Mother.”
