Space and Phoebus bill establishes New Jersey Farmers Market Week
TRENTON — This time next year, New Jersey may be marking Farmers Market Week under legislation to be introduced by Assemblyman Parker Space and Assemblywoman Gail Phoebus. The bill designates the first full week of August to salute farm markets, coinciding with National Farmers Market Week.
“Farmers can offer more fresh, affordable, nutritious, locally sourced food to New Jersey families through farmers markets,” said Space (R—Sussex). “Bringing a variety of farmers and crops together in one location, farmers markets are a hub for healthy food choices.”
“Farmers markets eliminate the middle man and transportation delays, and bring growers and shoppers together under one roof,” said Phoebus (R—Sussex). “Vegetables and fruits can go from farm to table in less than 24 hours, and families can enjoy the most fresh, nutritious meal options available. Nothing tastes as good as fresh picked Jersey corn, tomatoes, melons, apples and peaches.”
Space and Phoebus will introduce the legislation when the Assembly reconvenes next month.
