SPARTA — On Monday, the Reverend Brown School Chess Team won second place in the Northwest New Jersey Scholastic Team Tournament.
The tournament took place at Lake Mohawk Country Club and had 50 teams participating.
Jersey Chess instructor Coach Marty Sobin has taught chess at Reverend Brown for four years and is very proud of his Reverend Brown team, which includes Wes Taylor, Christian Marlin, Daniel Devine and Ethan Lilley.
Marty’s goal is not just to teach children how to play chess, but to instill in them a love for the game, so that they will play often, improve their game, and hopefully play competitively at tournaments.
