“A balanced spine means a healthy mind.” That's chiropractor Dr. Gregory Martin's mantra.
Dr. Martin explained, “Chiropractic adjustments work by helping to place your body in the proper position that then allows it to heal itself. Adjustments can reduce stress placed on someone’s immune system, freeing up energy to be used towards disease prevention. Chiropractic care aims to address the entire body, enhancing patients’ ability to think, move and perform better “
Adjustments mobilize the joints of the body: aka helps them move.
“With gravity, stress of life, aging, sports of all types and any trauma -- be it big or small -- it’s very common for joints in the body, particularly the spine and pelvis, to lock up,” Dr. Martin said. “When this happens, many negative changes begin to occur at different levels respective level. The best success is to get adjusted regularly, not only when you hurt. “
Unlike a lot of chiropractors out there who are insistent on multiple adjustments per week, Dr. Martin doesn't pressure patients. “I'm here to help my patients and do what's best for them. Sure, I can give optimal treatment when they come in regularly, but schedules and life can get in the way. One adjustment is better than none, so my patients come to me when they can on their schedules.”
Dr. Martin goes as far to scheduling special appointments for those on crazy schedules.
“I have been going to Dr. Greg for a few years now. I had never been to a chiropractor before,” said Geoff Doubleday, of Sparta. “Visiting him and it has changed my life completely. He pays close attention to your specific needs and it really pays off. Not only is my back pain better, but I just feel healthier in general since I've been getting adjusted.”
Dr. Martin has a vast background as an athlete and a coach.
“More and more these days, we're seeing kids preventing and lessening the severity of sports injuries through chiropractic,” he said, “Today, there are a lot of kids playing both travel and school sports. That's a lot. Keeping their bodies aligned can really help them.”
Another issue Dr. Martin Is seeing more and more of both in kids and adults is something called “Tech Neck.”
“With all the computers, cell phones and electronic devices around now, people are leaning their heads down a lot and can throw it out of alignment by doing so,” he said. “If it's not addressed, it can cause unhealthy changes in posture.”
After playing basketball for Lehigh University, Dr. Martini graduated from Rutgers and then realized his calling was to help others by becoming a chiropractor. He graduated from Life Chiropractic College in 1996, and has been practicing since then.
Dr. Martin says he is a big believer in treating the whole person which translates to looking for the underlying causes of discomfort, pain and disease which can arise from imbalances in the spinal column.
Chiropractic has been proven to help alleviate back pain, headaches, bowel irregularities, ear infections, neck pain, arthritis, scoliosis, asthma, high blood pressure and organ malfunctions. It has also been attributed to helping improve mental clarity and a healthy pregnancy. Furthermore, it has helped many people avoid surgery, he said.
Dr. Martin prides himself on taking a drug-less approach to helping his patients reach their health goals. His office environment is serene and his manner includes putting patients at ease and really listening to their health concerns.
“I've been going to Dr. Greg Martin for many years now,” said patient Mary M. “He is a skilled professional and provides excellent attention to adjusting your spine back into realignment. Dr Greg is extremely knowledgeable and compassionate about making you feel better. He's a really friendly person and offers great advice on ways to keep your spine realigned and healthy.”
Dr. Martin is a 17-year resident of Sparta. His son, Robbie, is playing football for and attending Penn State, and his daughter, Marissa, is a Ramapo College graduate now out in the real world.
“My patients are wonderful people and it's my privilege and honor to help them improve their health through chiropractic,” he said.
