Sparta High School Chemistry Olympics winners

Sparta High School participated in the 28th annual Chemistry Olympics competition held on Thursday, May 16, at NJIT in Newark, NJ. Students from Sparta High School took home three top place finishes: 1st place in Analytical Lab. The students had to perform a titration to determine the percentage of hydrogen peroxide found in an unknown solution. Members of this event were Kevin Mortillaro, Matthew Mayer and Peter Jin.

1st place in Microscale Lab. Students used microscale titration techniques to determine the solubility of an unknown alkaline earth hydroxide. Members of this event were Nick Kalman, Alexandra Chin and David Amiel.

2nd place in Demo Show. Students performed a live demonstration on equilibrium and color. Members of this event were David Amiel and Jeremy Valshtein.

Sparta High School would like to congratulate all members of the team, whose hard work and determination paid off. The goal for next year is to take first place overall at the New Jersey Chemistry Olympics.
