SPARTA — The Sparta Police Department have recently added two new officers to the force with the additions of Daniel Florio and Timothy Lynott.
The men were officially introduced at Tuesday’s meeting of the Sparta council. They both have completed and graduated from the Passaic County Police Academy and are on active duty with the department.
Florio, 29, of Sparta, graduated from Sussex County Technical School in 2003. He called joining the police department a big accomplishment.
“The departments been great,” Florio said. “Everyone’s been accommodating, welcoming and it’s just been a great experience all the way around.”
He said he is looking forward to working with “the guys” and learning from the other officers in the department.
Florio holds an Associate’s Degree in Environmental Science from the Community College of the Air Force. He also has a Bachelor’s Degree from Trident University in Political Science.
He is a highly decorated Military Veteran, having served in the United States Air Force where he currently holds the rank of Staff Sergeant. Florio served in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Currently he is in the Air Force Reserves assigned to the 514 Civil Engineer SQ (AMC) at Mcquire Air Force Base in Lakehurst New Jersey.
Lynott, 26, graduated from Pope John Regional High School in 2006 and Scranton University in 2010, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice.
Lynott has worked for the Sussex County Public Defender’s Office in Newton and St. Clare’s in Dover as an EMT-B. He is also a longtime volunteer member of the Sparta Township First Aid Squad
He said he is happy that Sparta gave him this opportunity.
“I’m really looking forward to having started working and working with the guys and learning everything I can,” Lynott said. “[And] just getting out there on the road and try to make a difference.”
With the hires, the police department now has 29 active duty police officers.
Both men have been assigned to the Uniformed Patrol Division.
