— The Sparta Girls Softball program concluded another successful year with teams at every age level competing and learning the game.

The success of the program is a true testament to the strong community ties as it is run by parents, has teams coached by moms and dads and town girls playing their hearts out, all for the love of the game.

The 2015 Sparta Diamond Travel Softball season concluded with the program hosting 60 teams from the New York-New Jersey area competing in the yearly “Sparta School’s Out Tournament” which was a huge success over the four days of competition.

The Sparta Diamond teams once again had strong spring league performances at every age level from 8U-16U, winning multiple tournaments along the way. Early in 2015, Sparta Girls Sports acquired their very own facility in Sparta for the girls to hone their softball skills.

Joe Jacobs, the head of the travel program said, “having our own facility is a big deal for Sparta Girls Sports, as it allows both the travel and rec softball programs to utilize the facility yearlong for practice, training and conditioning.”

SGS takes great pride in the prominent travel program it produces each year and through the hard work of both players and coaches the 10U and 12U Sparta Diamond teams have qualified for the Babe Ruth League Regionals beginning July 15.

The Sparta Diamonds have not had a team reach the regionals in this national tournament in more than 20 years. Both the 10U and 12U Sparta Diamond teams competed successfully in a sectional qualifier tournament the week of June 29 and now move on to play the top teams from Delaware, Pennsylvania, Southern NJ, Maryland and New York.

The Sparta teams will compete against 16 teams in each age bracket for a chance to head to Florida and compete for the National Title.

The focus of the Sparta Girls’ Sports program is to provide viable outlets in multiple sports for the girls of the community. Tryouts for girls’ softball will be held in late August or early September.
