St. Mary’s to share priest with Chester church
SPARTA. The churches will remain independent but will work together to strengthen their ministries.


The Rev. Elizabeth Ivell is the new shared priest-in-charge at the Church of the Messiah in Chester and St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Sparta.
The two churches, under the guidance of Bishop Carlye Hughes and Canon Margo Clark of the Episcopal Diocese of Newark, are forming a team ministry to serve both churches.
The churches will remain independent but will work together to strengthen their ministries.
Mother Elizabeth will lead a team that includes a deacon and lay ministers from both churches.
She has been an Episcopal priest for nine years and has experience in all aspects of the priesthood, with special skills in youth ministry, pastoral care and outreach.
Mother Elizabeth and her husband, Jimmy, have moved into the St. Mary’s Rectory.
The first church service she will lead will be at 10 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 25.
